A lot of times we are carrying around a lot of tension in our faces without even knowing it.  Through yoga we can actually release the tension in our faces along with other parts of our body..  When we relieve the tension in our face it heps all of our senses work better and we feel more awake and alive.  The lion pose is a yoga pose that may, make your feel silly.  You will be making a funny face when you do this but when you are done you will feel the tension in your face as decreased it might even help you get rid of a head ache, but there are no guarantees on that one.  This pose will also help to relieve tension and create flexibility in your shoulders, collarbone, and spine and will help to strengthen your spine as well.  Your arms will also be brought in to this a bit as well if you do this with weights.  If you are doing it with weights be sure to use light weights no more than 2 pounds for women and 3 to 5 pounds for men. If nothing else the pose will lighten your mood a bit because it feels really funny to do.

The Lion Pose

With the hand weights in your hands sit comfortably in a cross legged position.  Your hands should be along side your body with your palms facing backwards.  Your posture should be good and your spine should be erect, each of your heals should be directly below the knees.

Tip:  If this position is not comfortable for you place a small pillow or folded towel under your buttocks.

After you are confident you are in the correct position exhale to a count of 4 breathing in through your nose lift the hand weights forward, coming up and around in a bent arm position until your hands are aligned with your ears and your elbows are in direct line with your shoulders.

Now here comes the funny face moment.

As you exhale open up your mouth as far as you can and open up your eyes as wide as you can and stick your tongue out as far as you can.  Your exhale should come out of your mouth and should be kind of forecful, when I do it I kind of make a funny a noise. Once all of your breath has run out then slowly inhale through your nose and while you are inhaling to a count of 4 return your arms to the starting position as you relax your face.

Give your self a moment before doing the next set to just breath gently then repeat.

Do this at least 6 times but 8 is better.

Note you can do this during the day at your desk, just raising the arms as instructed and doing the funny face.  Of course you will want to make sure no one else is around.

I am loving these articles

Ranked #2 in Yoga

Thanks Carol.  I am always searching out natural cures for things.  I don't like taking medications so if I can do an exercise or eat a certain food to cure things I all for it.  Medications all come with side effects and as I get older I am trying me best to stay off of them.

Lion pose really stretches the muscles of the face, thanks Rae.
